A brief history of iPhone up to the iPhone 5s and c
17 Nov 13

As you must know, the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c have recently been released.

You may be wondering "so what, what’s the big deal?”. Well the big deal stems from Apple’s ever nearing grasp for perfection. So before we explain what the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c have to offer we would like to recap the evolution of the iPhone (we will be brief).

The iPhone was released June 29, 2007. It was the most anticipated gadget that year and was all the rage in every tech and non tech magazine, newspaper and news medium.

The lines that formed outside Apple stores were biblical. Being the first to own an Apple iPhone was paramount to anything else, at least to the early adopters (the people who lead the way for new un-tested devices).

The first touchscreen smart-phone device was born. The cell phone was to become no longer a device used primarily to make a call, it was now a multi-functional device which would be used more for the likes of Facebook and Whatsapp than actually making a call.

Unlike today with the App Store, the original iPhone was incapable of downloading third-party apps. Only apps which came preloaded were available to the user – but no one complained because these apps were still the best on the market.

The first iPhone featured:

    • 2 MP camera
    • 412 MHZ processor
    • GSM connection with Edge support for data transfer
    • WiFi capability
    • Bluetooth 2.0
    • Storage options (4GB, 8GB, 16GB)

The rest, they say, is history. Apple created a path for other smartphone manaufacturers and app developers. The way we use our smart phones, or "pocket computers” has changed the way we communicate with our friends, do business, plan our lives and socialise with the world.

That is why it is important when Apple releases new versions of its iPhone.

The Adam and Eve of smart phones.

The new iPhone 5S and 5C models add enhancements to last year’s iPhone 5 model, and continue the evolution of smartphone’s.

Improvements include a faster A7 processor, better camera functionality and a nifty fingerprint identification system which opens the lock screen.

Features of the iPhone 5s:

    • 8 MP camera
    • Dual-core 1.3 GHz Cyclone
    • GSM connection with Edge support for data transfer
    • WiFi capability
    • Bluetooth 4 with A2DP
    • LTE
    • Fingerprint sensor
    • iOS 7
    • Storage options (16GB, 32GB, 64GB)

Apple has notoriously been a mono-colour phone, usually white but they recently introduced black (not a lot of option there), however the 5s will come in various colours including shuttle grey, white and gold.

The 5C is where Apple has really embraced change. They have finally come out with an "economy” version of their smart phone.

The economy pricing of the iPhone 5C is possible thanks to a cheaper shell. Apple has ditched the aluminium exterior in favour of a plastic shell. Like most other manufactures already do.

Spec wise there is not much different to the iPhone 5; except of course for a wide variety of colourful cases.
