Vodacom Specials on Phonefinder

Vodacom is arguably the largest cellular network service provider in South Africa with 31.4 million subscribers on its base. When considering that South Africa has around 80 million mobile connections, it is remarkable that out of the five main Networks in South Africa that Vodacom’s base makes up to 38% of the cellular pie. A close second is MTN with its voice and data plans.

Vodacom remains the largest player in the South African mobile market. While Cell C and Telkom are gaining in popularity the clear second winner is MTN.

Phonefinder compares every Vodacom data and voice deal in South Africa, from the latest iphone 6 Plus to the older more affordable feature phones Vodacom seems to have a deal for every cellular user in South Africa. Vodacom deals continue to remain highly competitive, and due to the volume of consumer cellular deals on offer by Vodacom there is a deal for everyone.

Vodacom offers the market a range of voice and data deals which while some consumers may argue are pricier than the competitors other Vodacom customers will argue that their service and data speed cannot be matched.

Vodacom’s infrastructure is one of the oldest and comprehensive in South Africa (around 10 000 base stations compared to MTN’s 6 000), and it could get even better. Earlier this year (17 June 2015) The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) allowed Vodacom to buy Neotel for R7bn. The plan behind this deal is for Vodacom to bring fibre optic network to the consumer’s home.

Vodacom has been a cellular leader in South Africa for some time, this is evident in the fact that they were also the first to making a successful commercial voice over WiFi (VoWiFi) call in South Africa (a service which Cell C are offering its subscribers). VoWiFi technology will assist in improving cellular coverage when normal signals become weak (your modem will actually act as a telecommunications post and boost your signal. Normal cell phone rates will still apply).
